Paris Hilton: Why We Love Her, Or Choose to Envy Her

Paris Hilton: Why we love her, or choose to envy her

By: Antonio Santiago

Let’s admit it. Today’s world of instant food and celebrity is perfectly fit for someone who never did anything but enjoy life to become famous to shine on our faces. We wish we could be like that person, cause, I mean, these are the times when a lot of us will just sit down in front of a television and play a meaningless, fake sports video game with a person bearing our name just to feel famous ourselves. That’s what we call instant gratification, and since we are obsessed with that, we just love, or envy, Paris. And Nicole, and Britney and Lindsay too.

Today’s female version of The Rat Pack is led by a beautiful, rich girl whose first claim to fame was to be born the daughter of Richard Hilton and his wife. With Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Ritchie in tow, Paris Hilton is the most famous of the famous, the one with all the friends we wish we could have, and enough money never to worry about her economy. And very hot looks. And great fashion sense. As a matter of a fact, Paris has managed to become the focus of the fashion world, and I don’t mean Paris the city, I mean Paris the person.

True, she has committed dumb mistakes and made us all laugh with her “I’m not, like, smart” kind of statements, but there is nothing to laugh about Paris’ fashion. She is the current Goddess of the fashion world and has actually substituted Sex and The City as our favorite fashion show, her stylish dresses and enticing hair style always making women say “I want that!” and us guys say “I want her!”. Besides, who has not committed mistakes? Just last week, I was playing Halo2 on my friend’s Playstation and said the very dumb sounding phrase “I’m using a gun (in the game!) and I don’t even know the name of it; it probably has some Russian name!”. And there is the classic one my friend committed once, when, driving in front of a cop car, he starting singing that famous rap song, “I shot the sheriff!”. So, it’s not like Paris is, like, the only one that has done less than smart stuff. As a matter of a fact, in fashion she gets an A+++ from yours truly.

That’s because the girl knows how to dress. You don’t get looked after by the Christian Dior and Marciano brands and by Tommy Hilfiger by chance. You have to show them you have the goods before you get there, sort of like trying to make the New York Yankees roster. The thing also is, she has the money to dress right in the first place. Most of us have to settle for K-Mart and Wal-Mart clothes, which are not that bad at all sometimes, but compare department store clothes to Dick Cheney: they are the wannabe’s of the fashion world, while the real clothes, the ones that the famous designers do, are more like George W. Bush: they are not wannabe’s, they are it.

Which is why many people envy Paris Hilton. Envy is disguised as hate many times and every time that Paris does something stupid all the haters come out of the woods. It’s not like we have been perfect our own entire lives, or is it??

Precisely because a lot of us have to- settle for-uh!!-Wal-Mart, a lot of people dislike Paris. We surely wish we could have all her money. And, at least for those of us who have fashion taste but no money to show it, we sure wish we could have money to waste in looking good, which is something she is very good at. I’ll go further and say that she proved she doesn’t need to be wearing clothes to look good; her “extracurricular” movie tape which was released in 2004 showed her looking mighty fine in Eve’s dress as well.

I guess we all can love or envy Paris, but heck do we need her!!
