Van Wilder and Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle star, Kal Penn has joined Hugh Laurie and the cast of House this season as Lawrence Kutner, a doctor who has unconvential methods for diagnosing patients. Wait, isn’t that Dr. House?

Kutner caught House’s attention in the episode by resuscitating a patient and suggesting that they get her drunk to better diagnose her rare neurological condition. “Lawrence is a fan of trying random methods of exploration and life saving, and isn’t afraid to break the rules a little bit,” Penn tells EW exclusively.

Penn says he’s very happy to be joining this show and everyone made him feel welcome. He will also star in Harold and Kumar 2 due out in 2008.
