Nicole Kidman Box Office Poison?
Actress Nicole Kidman has been working steadily this past year, despite some folks wondering aloud if she is the key to many of her recent films doing dismal box office bank.
With nearly 50 films under her belt, Nicole currently has five films in the works; the earliest, The Golden Compass, is scheduled for release on December 7th. The $175 million film has many holding their breath, but some critics, including the film’s crew, are less than enthused. Reports that the movie is awful have been impossible to stop. Compass, which New Line Cinemas hopes will revive the company, has been dismissed as “just plain bad.”
Her recent string of movie choices has been terrible: Bewitched, The Invasion, The Stepford Wives. In fairness to her, I don’t think it’s her, per say. Kidman used to work less and chose better roles: The Others, Moulin Rouge, Cold Mountain. The other interesting paradox about this is those ‘better’ well-received movies were during her Tom Cruise era. You could make the case that she is happier personally with Keith Urban now, so her attention is not as focused on career successes. Or she could just have a string of bad luck. What do you think?
