Linda Ellerbee To Host Nickelodeon Special Focusing On Sex And Love

Jamie Lynn Spears at Kids Choice Awards, March ‘07

Nickelodeon, the network for kids airing Jamie Lynn Spears‘ show Zoey 101, is considering a special hosted by Linda Ellerbee, focusing on teenage love, sex and pregnancy. With Spears’ announcement this week of her pregnancy, Nickelodeon is undecided how to handle the controversy surrounding it’s most popular star of a show aimed at kids ages 9 – 14. Ellerbee is a veteran of news and has done many specials for the network in the past including topics of AIDS, the Columbine Shootings and then-President Clinton’s impeachment hearings.

“I think it’s important that something be done,” Ellerbee told The Associated Press on Thursday. “But I think it’s important that it be done in a measured way, and not just to feed the beast of news stories.

A Nickelodeon spokesman, Dan Martinsen, confirmed the discussions but said no decision had been made.

Spears, the younger sister of pop star Britney Spears, told the OK! celebrity magazine this week that she was pregnant. The father is her 19-year-old boyfriend, Casey Aldridge. She said she plans to raise the baby in her home state of Louisiana.

Earlier this year, Disney was in the same public relations nightmare when their teen star, Vanessa Hudgens had nude pictures of herself leaked on the internet. Disney waited it out, let the dust settle and Hudgens stayed in the successful High School Musical franchise. I think Nickelodeon will do the same thing.
