Diablo Cody: Juno’s Mastermind Doing Jennifer’s Body Next

Diablo Cody, Screenwriter for “Juno”

Juno is the hot film with all the Oscar buzz and Diablo Cody is the woman behind the successful suprise hit. The ex-stripper who also blogs, had no formal training as a screenwriter. Cody (real name Brook Busey-Hunt,) has a number of other projects in the works. The first one, the horror comedy Jennifer’s Body, to begin filming in March with her Juno director Jason Reitman.

Reitman said he was amazed to find out that Cody — who banged out “Juno” on a laptop at a Starbucks in a suburban Target — had no formal training as a screenwriter. He also didn’t know her background as a one-time stripper.

“I thought, ‘This girl’s got a lotta wit,’ and the words on the page seemed to live up to the woman. I was also struck by how much heart she had,” Reitman recalls. “In our first meeting we talked … as much about the ending of the movie being moving as we talked about the beginning of the movie being kind of snappy and funny.”

Before the writer’s strike, Cody had a full dance card with a Steven Spielberg special for Showtime “The United States of Tara” starring Toni Collette, and a college comedy for Universal Studios called “Girly Style.” Let’s hope we see more from Cody soon.

Great post! I was planning on a DC post, but I couldn’t have said it better myself!

She’s also going to be a regular columnist for Entertainment Weekly.
