Cartier’s Indian Side
Whoever has not heard of the Cartier fashion house by now probably lived in Mars for the last 20 years or has been buried deep beneath their quilts for many long, frigid winters. Cartier is to fashion what Mack is to trucks, Disney to cartoons and NASCAR to Southern hillbillies. It’s a name everyone knows and a brand to be reckoned.
But let me ask you something. Do you know Daisy Fellowes, Carlos de Beistiegui or Sir Yadavindra Singh? Be honest now. It’s ok if you don’t know them.
Exactly. I thought so. Neither do I. They, however, are among the elite crowd that Cartier historically catered for, and on their recent fashion launch party in London, England, Cartier released accessories that are similar to ones worn by them. And judging by the photos at my side, they had pretty darn good taste too.
Among Cartier’s accessory collection, there is a platinum corsage necklace that is adorned with emeralds, pearls, engraved rubies and diamond beads. It is long, and an example was worn by an elephant during the Jaipur Polo tournament of 2006. Now, as you all know I am a rabid boxing fan and understand as much about Polo as Polo’s most famous player, Prince Charles, probably understands about boxing, but the sight of an elephant wearing a Cartier necklace over his head is something I’d paid for. For the poor thing, however, it must have been the heck of a headache.
I am sure the necklace will not be as much of a headache to you my female readers and it would not highlight your noses as much as it did that poor animal’s. In fact, you would look super glam with it and deliciously exquisite shall you wear it on a ball, a wedding reception or a gala, with a white or pink dress. For prices, call 1-800-Cartier.
While generally a feminine accessory, the piece is unisex, although I don’t expect many men outside India to use it. And I certainly don’t expect to see anyone at the street basketball courts I frequent wearing them either, because there they would be subject to the craziest stuff you have ever heard someone say to another one.
Cartier is also launching pieces inspired on their 1924 Tutti Frutti line, much of which was done inspired by Indian culture.
Another highlight item on Cartier’s 34 piece collection, named the “Inde Mysterieuse High Jewerly Collection”, is a platinum and diamond necklace complete with engraved emeralds; it is sold at select Cartier Boutiques in the United States. Two emerald diamonds hold this elegant piece together, while a third hangs on to it like a tennis shoe hanging on a phone pole cable, but much more graciously. This beautiful piece can go with any color you want to wear, as most Indian inspired items usually can.
Well before I leave I want to congratulate my friends Nicole Ritchie and Christina Aguilera on their babies. One thing, however, to those of you celebs who read this: please consider giving your children normal names. Somehow, I always thought that names like Apple, Winter or Suri are actually meant to bring a person’s self esteem down. Then again, Im planning to name my daughter Cherokee, so what do I know?
The celeb I want to do of the week has to be Amanda Peterson, the fantastic looking actress who was on Can’t Buy Me Love with Patrick Dempsey in 1987. She hasn’t done much after that but somehow I cannot imagine such a beautiful girl turning into a less than hot woman. I would happily move to Greeley, Colorado just to be with her, even if Greeley consists only of one street and a gas station.
Well, my amigas, it is time to say sayonara and see you next week. Until then, keep wearing your best!
