Pink + PETA = No Horse Drawn Carriage Rides
Singer and vegetarian Pink has angered the Horse and Carriage Association in New York City - you know, the guys who give you horse and buggy tours around the city. Teaming up with animal rights group PETA, Pink has gone on to criticize the drivers and the treatment of the horses.
The singer, who’s previous hits include ‘Stupid Girl’, said: “Every time I see these horses in New York City, it hurts my heart. These horses aren’t taken care of at all - their hooves are made for grass and they’re forced to walk on concrete, and there’s fumes from all the traffic in the city, which the horses suck in all day.”
The association had something to say about PETA and Pink:
Spokesperson Carolyn Daly told the New York Daily News: “A true Stupid Girl is one who talks pubicly about something she knows nothing about. They have specialized shoes for concrete. We haven’t had one animal cruelty violation from the three agencies that oversee us.”
The singer is taking part in the PETA campaign to boycott this particular mode of transportation around the city. Billboards are prominent all over NYC and during Valentine’s Day (one of the most popular times of the year for a romantic carriage ride,) the Horse and Carriage Association is striking back.

PETA’s horse-drawn carriage campaign comes shortly after the New York City comptroller audited the carriage horse industry and found that the city “abandoned many of its responsibilities and permitted some carriage owners to maintain their horses in substandard conditions.” Shortly after the report was released, a carriage horse got into an accident and died when frightened by the sound of street musician’s drums.

I think Pink is right on target, and many New Yorkers and tourists agree with her. The horse-drawn carriage industry needs to be banned from NYC as soon as possible. Those of us who witness the suffering and miserable existence these horses are forced to endure day after day know that it’s long past time to get this industry out of our city. It’s quite pathetic that one of the greatest cities in the world, with so much to offer, still has these poor animals dragging tourists around, while they suffer and die, needlessly. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve seen near-accidents happen while the horses are in chaotic traffic situations. It’s quite simple–enslaving these horses in the brutal environment of NYC is animal abuse. It can’t be justified, so it needs to go.
Anyone who does a little research into the daily existence of a carriage horse agrees–these horses have lives of misery, end of story.
You animal rights terrorists are all such ignorant, misguided self-important idiots, it just kills me to hear anything you have to say about our industry. We love our horses…they are treated better than many PEOPLE in NYC and I will not apoliogize for having a carriage horse. They have been around for thousands of years. Our horses have state of the art facilities (contrary to what you liars say) 12×12 box stall, all the food and water they want, specialized shoes with silicone gel, 4 months off on a farm a year, retired to homes throughout the counrty (I know because I arrange these adoptions alongside the humane society of NY)….the list goes on and on. We have NEVER had an animal abuse violation against any of us, and you know what…accidents happen! How many people do you suppose die in car accidents on the streets of manhattan every year? You people are a bunch of liars out to slander us to fill your own agenda….That being total animal “liberation” That means no animal experiments, so no medicine, no leather, no wool, no right to eat meat, no animal products, and no pets. Right? Your cause is insane, and sooner or later the masses will see for themselves that you animal “rights” activists are NUTS!!!!! When did animal life become more important than human life?
