The Greatest Films to be Snubbed by Oscar

Oscars

Oscar night is this Sunday, and while you can take comfort in knowing that NORBIT got nominated for an Acadamy Award (I’m not even making this up…they’re nominated for best makeup artist!), some of the greatest films of all time were actually snubbed altogether by the Acadamy.  Here’s a look at a few of those films that were left out in the cold:

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

 Superman: The Movie, Animal House
 Alien
The Empire Strikes Back, The Shining
 Scarface
 The Natural
 Back to the Future
 Top Gun
 Glory, Batman
 Hook, Fried Green Tomatoes
 The Last of the Mohicans
 Tombstone
 Legends of the Fall
The Usual Suspects, Toy Story, Casino
 Primal Fear
 Amistad
Toy Story 2, The Matrix, Fight Club

 The Patriot
 Training Day, Black Hawk Down
 The Bourne Identity
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

 Collateral
 Gone Baby Gone

Also, you can sleep at night knowing that someone like Jennifer Hudson got an Oscar for her first film performance, but Alfred Hitchcock never won!  Kinda makes you wonder, who is this Oscar person, anyway?

I could have sworn Jessica Tandy won with Fried Green Tomatoes, I guess it must have been Drivin Miss Daisy.

Amistad missing out is such a travesty but it’s so common, didn’t LA Confidential miss out to Titanic?
