In summation, this was a very BORING Oscars this year! No Country for Old Men picked up 4 Acadamy Awards, and the only big surprise was Tilda Swinton winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
11:45 p.m.: A bald Denzel Washington presents the award for Best Picture. Winner: No Country for Old Men
11:42 p.m.: Martin Scorsese presents award for Best Director. Winner: Joel Coen and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men)
11:30 p.m.: Helen Mirren presents award (and says the word “Cajones”) for Best Actor. Winner: Daniel Day Lewis (There Will Be Blood)
11:23 p.m.: Harrison Ford presents award for Best Original Screenplay. Winner: Juno (Diablo Cody)
11:15 p.m.: Tom Hanks presents award for Best Documentary Feature. Winner: Taxi to the Dark Side
11:12 p.m.: Tom Hanks (and Iraqi soldiers) present award for Best Documentary Short Subject. Winner: Freeheld
11:08 p.m.: Amy Adams presents award for Best Original Score. Winner: Atonement
11:01 p.m.: Hillary Swank presents the In Memoriam montage.
10:58 p.m.: Cameron Diaz presents award for Best Cinematography in a Film. Winner: There Will Be Blood
10:48 p.m. John Travolta waltzes out onto the stage (literally) to announce the winner for Best Original Song. Winner: “Falling Slowly” (Once)
10:45 p.m.: Patrick Dempsey presents Best Song nominee “So Close” from Enchanted.
10:42 p.m.: Penelope Cruz presents award for Best Foreign Language Film. Winner: The Counterfeiters (Austria)
10:31 p.m.: Nicole Kidman presents Honorary Oscar Recipient Robert Boyle with award.
10:27 p.m.: Renee Zellweger presents award for Best Film Editing. Winner: The Bourne Ultimatum.
10:20 p.m.: Colin Ferrell presents nominee for Best Song, “Falling Slowly,” for Once.
10:15 p.m.: Jon Stewart engages in a game of Wii Tennis.
10:10 p.m. Forrest Whitaker presents the winner for Best Actress. Winner: Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose)
10:05 p.m.: Seth and Jonah present again for Best Sound Mixing. Winner: The Bourne Ultimatum
10:00 p.m.: Dame Judy Dench and Halle Berry Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill present award for Best Sound Editing. Winner: The Bourne Ultimatum.
9:52 p.m.: Miley Cyrus presents Best Song Nominee “That’s How You Know” from the movie Enchanted.

9:34 p.m.: Alan Arkin presents the award for Best Supporting Actress. Winner: Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton)

9:00 p.m.: Best Song nominee: “Happy Working Song” performance by Amy Adams (Enchanted)
8:56 p.m.: Katherine Heigl presents award for Achievement in Makeup. Winner: La Vie en Rose
8:52 p.m.: Anne Hathaway and Steve Carrell present award for Best Animated Feature. Winner: Ratatouille
8:47 p.m.: George Clooney presents dedication to 80 years of Oscar.
8:40 p.m.: Jennifer Garner presents award for Best Costume Design. Winner: Elizabeth: The Golden Age
8:30 p.m.: Jon Stewart is hosting; with the writer’s strike finally over, he describes the Oscars by saying, “welcome to the makeup sex!”

Jon Stewart is mostly disappointing so far, no? Btw, what did you make of Francis Ford Coppola’s Youth Without Youth? It hasn’t gotten much play, but it’s a more engaging film than many of those being given awards tonight. Here’s an interesting discussion of the film.
