David Archuleta Flubs Up the Lyrics on ‘We Can Work it Out’

I had a real problem with last night’s episode of American Idol. I love the Beatles, and the songs on last night’s episode are some of the best songs written in rock-n-roll history. And of course, there was a lot of butchering.

What really got me, though, was David Archuleta. I know he’s only 17, but how could he sing “Imagine” written by John Lennon a couple of weeks ago with such conviction in a performance that brought many people to tears, and then say he wasn’t a fan of The Beatles and that “type” of music this week? So, since he “didn’t know” any of the songs, he sings the Stevie Wonder version of “We Can Work it Out” and forgets half the lyrics and tries to turn it into a show tune. Perhaps he’s trying to show his more human side? Either way, it didn’t work for me. Go back to the sad songs, David! Last night’s episode was a disaster, if you ask me. Your thoughts?

It almost seems like David A. did it on purpose. I don’t buy what he said about not being familiar with Lennon/Macartney! He’s not a good liar! He probably won’t try that stunt again. If he gets voted off tonight, he should be placed under suicide watch.
COME ON DAVID, BRING IT AND DON’T SCREW IT UP AGIAN! YES THERE IS PRESSURE, BUT THAT IS PART OF THE SHOW AND COMPETITION. JUST DO WHAT YOU DO BEST AND DON’T WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE!

He was sick with strep throat that week, but still sounded great in-spite of messing up the lyrics. He humbly took the criticism and came back even stronger. I fell in love with his voice last season, googled him since then, and have become a huge fan of this incredible young man. Randy was right, He can sing the phonebook. (Anything!)
