Team Fierce: Christian Siriano and ‘Ugly Betty’
Project Runway’s Season 4 winner, Christian Siriano is everywhere lately, and good for him! Unlike previous winners and fan favorites (Jay McCarroll and Daniel Vosovic) he seems to be celebrating his victory and capitalizing with appearances. For the May Sweeps, he will take a cameo, along with Nina Garcia from PR and Elle Magazine, on Ugly Betty.
According to an ABC statement, Siriano, 22, will cross paths with “Mode’s own hot tranny mess” Alexis Meade (Rebecca Romijn).
In an interview given earlier this year, the father figure of the Runway gang, Tim Gunn, vowed to help mentor the up and coming designer as he was so impressed with his raw talent.
When we had the auditions in New York, it was the last stop on the audition train. We’d already found a ton of great people with maturity and experience. When I saw Christian’s paperwork, I turned to the producers and said, ‘Why are we seeing this kid?’ And they said the people doing the prescreening saw something in him. And I said, ‘OK.’”
“He came in and he had been in the room about 10 seconds, and I said to my fellow judges, ‘This is an old soul. This is not a 21-year-old kid.’ The work blew me away. I’ve spent my life working with young people, working with students. The closest I’ve ever come to a real prodigy is the Proenza Schouler boys, Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez. But Christian just blows me away.”
With Gunn helping Siriano wade thru the scammers and opportunists, Christian has a real chance at being at the Next Great American Designer.
