Hollywood Lights Up White House Correspondents Dinner

Until Stephen Colbert‘s mistaken invitation to the White House Correspondents Dinner in 2006, I didn’t even know celebrities graced the annual event with their A-List presence. This year, I’m left wondering who didn’t attend! Here are the highlights from Saturday night’s shindig:

**Pamela Anderson got a shout out from President Bush himself, who “joked that her proximity to Mitt Romney was surely a sign of the apocalypse.”

** Could girls have screamed any louder for The Jonas Brothers? And how in the world did they find skinny-leg pants tuxedos?

** Pete Wentz wore white socks with his tux and black dress shoes (Ashlee! Why did you let him out of the house that way!)

** In a red carpet interview that nearly made me spit out my coffee, Kal Penn was asked if he would be doing a screening of Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay at the dinner!

** Standing out in a sea of mostly very tasteful gowns, Heidi Montag showed up looking ghastly – and a bit recycled as well. Maybe she and Perez Hilton should have attended together instead? Or maybe once she decided it was, in fact, A-listy enough for her she didn’t have time to go shopping?

Also in attendance: Marcia Cross, Denise Austen, Lauren Conrad, Aaron Eckhart, Martha Stewart, Salman Rushdie, Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck, Jenny McCarthy, Hayden Panettiere, and featured entertainer Craig Ferguson.
