Remember when kids wanted to “be like Mike”?   Well, now British kids want to be like the Beckhams!  A survey by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers in England finds that David Beckham is the celebrity most school children (53%) model themselves after.   Posh also gets lots of love:  30% of students “aspire to be like his Spice Girl wife,” Victoria.

I can completely see kids admiring Becks.  But Posh?  I shudder to think what little girls would do to try to be like her.   In fact, the teachers polled “professed to being troubled by the number of pupils who wish to be ‘famous for being famous’.”    And I would be too, since 32% of “secondary school teachers said pupils aspired to be like Paris Hilton.”

Lovely.  Nearly two-thirds of kids in England want to be rich blonde bimbos with no (non-pornographic) marketable skills whatsoever.    I’m more than a little worried about the future!
