Eva Mendes Checked Into Rehab For Research…What??

It is being said that Eva Mendes checked into rehab for a movie role that she was researching. Everyone thought it was kind of weird that she would go into rehab. Eva had cited “personal issues” as the reason for checking in…but was it really another issue all together? Star magazine (via SFGate) has the story:

Now there is speculation Mendes may have been researching her role (for the movie “Queen of the South,” which follows her character, as she flees Mexico for Spain when her drug-runner boyfriend is murdered) in rehab — a theory backed by acting coach John Kirby.

He tells Star, “It’s not unusual at all for an actor or actress to go to the extreme of checking into rehab to prepare for a character.

“In fact, I would encourage that for my students, because you want to fully immerse yourself in the role.”

If she was researching why didn’t she just say that when she got out. It seems weird that it’s coming out about it now how many months later. Of course, the best research is like that. That’s why I would love to be an actor for just that reason.
