Kylie Minogue Receives British Honor
Pop star Kylie Minogue was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) at Buckingham Palace today. I didn’t know exactly what this was, and had to look it up, so I thought I’d share my learnings with you. From the British Royals’ own website:
The Order of the British Empire recognises distinguished service to the arts and sciences, public services outside the Civil Service and work with charitable and welfare organisations of all kinds.
Today the Order of the British Empire is the order of chivalry of British democracy. Valuable service is the only criterion for the award, and the Order is now used to reward service in a wide range of useful activities.
Kylie was “lauded for a career that spans more than two decades.”
She has been picking up awards left and right lately. In May the singer was made a Chevalier dans l’ordre des Arts et Lettres (Knight of Arts and Letters) in France for “the cultural pleasure she has given French people.” She’s sure come a long way from acting in soap operas!
