‘Friends’ The Movie?

NBC insiders are dispelling the rumors begun by The Daily Mail that a big-screen version of the uber-popular TV show Friends is in the works.    The British tabloid claims that “all six stars are eager to reprise their roles in a feature film adaptation” of the sitcom, particularly citing Jennifer Aniston‘s enthusiasm.  However, according to OK! Magazine, NBC says no way:

“There’s no way Jen, or really any of the others, would want to do this,” explains one exec. “They’ve all spent the last four years trying to distance themselves from these iconic characters, this would be seen as just a crass cash-in.”

Those who draw comparisons to the success of Sex And The City and its adaptability for the screen are also wrong, say OK!’s sources:

“With SATC, those were always lifelike, dramatic characters that you could envision in a feature-length film,” explains the insider. “But Friends exists in that sitcom world where 23 minutes is exactly about how long you can stand these people for at a time.”

I might get shot for saying this, but I could never watch Friends for more than about 5 minutes, much less 23,  before I felt like jumping out a window just to end the pain.  I don’t even want to think about what I’d do if I had to sit through a feature-length film of that dreck!
