Who’s Got Next?: Volume 1
So since this is my first official post along with my new family here at BSC, I thought I’d kick it off with a little featurette (apparently that’s not an actual word– who knew?) I’d like to call “Who’s Got Next” (not the most original, but give me a break here– I’ll grow!). I pride myself on being abreast (now that’s a word!) on the freshest artists on the hemisphere, and sometimes I just like to brag about what’s on my ipod. If you’re familiar at all with my baby JesusHeartsMusic.com, or know me through some of my gigs in-and-around Maryland, this is old news. This is just a little slice of what I hope to bring to the table on a regular basis, so be sure to keep checkin’ me out! Anyways. Here are three of the artists I feel that you should have in your life…TODAY!

Aside from being a friend of mine, Casely is a young Miami-an who’s been on his grind since before he learned to shave. Combining the R&B melodies we’ve all been bred to crave since the days we rocked to Blackstreet and Boyz II Men with the mandatory pairing with some of hip hop’s hottest (see Pitbull, Flo Rida and uber-producer JR Rotem). You already know him from his first single “Emotional”, now check him out with his latest cut “Drunk Dial” or his club-regular collaboration with DJ Laz, “Move, Shake & Drop”.

Not since Don Knotts has Pittsburgh spawned a more praise-worthy artist. Girl Talk isn’t the gum-snapping 80’s synth group you might imagine the second you see the marquee at one of his events, but the flawless mash-up DJ (he’s so good that it’s almost scalding to label him simply as a mash-up DJ) who goes by the name Gregg is revolutionizing the game of 1’s and 2’s and simply bringing it down to a RAM-boosted laptop of brilliance. Check out his new record “Feed the Animals” which over-sugars your brain with combinations like Cassidy’s “My Drink & My 2 Step” vocals over the beat of Ace of Base’s “All That She Wants”. Yep. Brilliance!

Boasting Brooklyn as her hometown, Santogold (real name Santi White) isn’t your typical black chick. And it’s just with that in-your-face, as-i-am confidence that’s making her a must for hipsters and hip-hop revolutionizers everywhere. In fact, she’s so not hip-hop that it gives her just that much more street cred (am I making sense yet?). At times she sounds like friend & collaborator M.I.A., while at other times, sounding more like Gwen Stefani on a soul-craving ballad (like “Lights Out”). Her melodies scream for societal revolution, while her beats make you bob your head. Does it get much better? Santogold simply is the perfect set of training wheels for wannabe punksters in a Top40 world.
