Brad Pitt Tarantino’s Bastard?
Quentin Tarantino has finally finished his long awaited script The Inglorious Bastards. Reportedly Brad Pitt is in talks with the director to take the lead role in the World War II film. Despite what people may think this wouldn’t be the first time Pitt uttered Quentin’s written words. He played the stoner Floyd in the Tarantino written True Romance in 1993.
Michael Madsen is attached to the film as Babe Buchinsky, as well as Tim Roth.
The story is about a group of soldiers (the bastards) who are on their way to execution for their bad deeds, instead they are given another chance by going on a suicide mission. Tarantino said of the bastards, “Not your normal hero types that are thrown into a big deal in World War II.” Reportedly the film will be separated in two parts much like Kill Bill, given it’s much longer than average script length. The film will pay homage to films like The Dirty Dozen, and The Great Escape.
The script is being shopped to Universal, Warner Bros, Paramount and Sony. Maybe not so surprisingly Harvey Weinstein will not be financing the film. Tarantino’s last film was part of the two part box office flop, Grindhouse from Miramax (Weinstein). Apparently Tarantino has been working on the script since 1997, he said “…if all goes well, I will be here in 2009 at Cannes with my new war film Inglorious Bastards!”
Personally I can’t wait! Tarantino’s unique filmmaking style always seems to be fresh in some way. I love (most) of his films, this is sure to be a great addition to his impressive library. Entertainment Weekly put Pulp Fiction at the top of their list of classic movies of the last 25 years. His most recent film, Death Proof, from the Grindhouse double feature, was very underrated. Inglorious Bastards will hopefully be a Glorious return to the mass public.
Here’s a clip of Pitt in True Romance.
