Natalie Cole Has Hepatitis C
Here’s yet another reason to Just Say No To Drugs, kids. Singer Natalie Cole recently confirmed through her rep that she has been diagnosed with Hepatitis C.
Her doctors believe that she contracted the disease when she was using drugs “decades ago.”
In a statement, Dr. Graham Woolf, Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at U.C.L.A./Cedars-Sinai Medical Center said: “Natalie has had a terrific response to her medication and is now virus negative. This gives her an increased chance of cure.”
Hepatitis C is caused by a virus. It’s often spread by injected drug users sharing needles. A patient can have the disease for 10-20 years without symptoms.
Cole said:
“I’ve been so fortunate to have learned so much from my past experiences. I am embraced by the love and support of my family and friends; I am committed to my belief in myself and in my abiding faith to meet this challenge with a heartfelt optimism and determination. This is how I intend to deal with this current challenge in my life.”
Despite being sober for at least the last 15 years or so, Natalie sounded bitter earlier this year when she slammed the Grammy voters for rewarding Amy Winehouse’s “bad behavior” with five awards. Methinks someone needs to go back and work their steps. Natalie herself has eight Grammys under her belt, including one for her creepy “duet” with her dead dad. Is she afraid Wino is going to catch up to her or something?
