Isaac Hayes Dead At Age 65

Oscar winner and soul music icon Isaac Hayes died on Sunday at his home in Memphis.  He was 65 years old.  Hayes was

reportedly found unconscious near a running treadmill at his home. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death was not known.

The smooth, deep-voiced singer had hoped to star in Gordon Parks‘ 1971 movie “Shaft.”  Instead he made history when he became the first black composer to win an Oscar for Best Song with the movie’s now-famous theme song.    He was inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Most recently, Hayes provided the voice of Chef on South Park until 2006, when he left the show supposedly unhappy with its treatment of Scientology, the religion to which he belonged.

The music world lost “a bad mother- shut your mouth!” today.  Rest in peace, Isaac.
