Spoiled Rich Kids Live In Poverty on MTV’s Exiled

Last night marked the premiere of the new MTV spin on the reality show, My Super Sweet Sixteen. Amanda, an 18 year old, BMW driving, shopping-spree spending, never had a job before, ungrateful girl was banished to Africa to live in a tiny village and see how the rest of the world lives. She had to walk 4 fours to get water, lived in a hut made of cow dung, dealt with bugs everywhere and complained every second of every day during the first part of her trip. After a graphic goat slaughter and a phone call to her dad (amazing how there was a phone in a tiny African village), she decided it was time to quit being miserable and start making the most of her time.

After that, she actually had a great attitude and really got to know the people she was with. Turns out, they had more in common than she could have ever realized- and they even had a little dance party to prove it. Her last night there, the father of her guide, Josephine, welcomed her as part of their family and gave her the native name “Nadupoi” which meant “aware”. When Amanda went to leave, both she and Josephine were in tears… The experience had changed them both. And upon Amanda’s arrival at home, she was more grateful for everything she had. Her eyes had been opened and she was happy to have had the experience.
