Oprah Winfrey Is Most Generous Celebrity

Gazbillionaire Oprah Winfrey is at the top of Parade Magazine’s list of 2007’s most generous celebrities.  She donated a whopping $50.2M to charities last year.

A lot of money that celebs donate to charity goes to their own foundations to support their own pet projects, and Oprah is no exception - much of that went to the Oprah’s Angel Network and the Oprah Winfrey Foundation.

Who else gave away their millions?  Read on:

2.  Bandleader Herb Alpert, 73 years old, gave $13M, some to his own music charity.

3.  Barbra Streisand donated $11M to “causes concerned with improving the environment, women’s issues, civil rights and AIDS research.”

4.  Paul Newman gave back to his alma mater, Kenyon College, to the tune of $10M.

5.  Mel Gibson gave away $9.9M to (what else) his Holy Family Church in Malibu, CA,

6. Brad Pitt and Angelia Jolie gave $8.4 million “to benefit New Orleans reconstruction, refugee aid and cross-cultural understanding.”

7. Is a three-way tie among three athletes.  Lance Armstrong, Michael Jordan, and hockey star Eric Lindros each gave $5M to a variety of causes.

The list was generated using public records of donations given during 2007.
