Shia LaBeouf Explains His Name

If you speak French like I do, you’ve probably wondered by Shia LaBeouf’s name is spelled wrong.  It’s really hard to spell for that reason; I have to intentionally forget my education and misspell it on purpose!  And that’s exactly what happened, apparently.  He explained to Parade:

“In French, LaBeouf means ‘beef,’ but mine is spelled wrong. It should be ‘LaBoeuf.’ My grandmother was a beatnik lesbian in the ’50s, who hated her family and decided to change the spelling, and it’s been that way ever since. So you go to France and people are like, ‘LaBeouf? You have an illiterate last name.’ By the way, Shia is a bad four-letter word in French. So the literal translation of my name is ‘S*** the Beef.’  Kind of rock-starry isn’t it?”

Wow… I must have been absent from French class on that particular day!  What kinds of parents name their child S*** the Beef, in any language??!

Shia doesn’t mean S*** in French. It’s not even a French word.

I thought “merde” was French for sh*t.

That’s why I have a hard time spelling it…because it’s spelt different than the french version…that’s pretty sh**ty for his mom to do that to him!
