Misty May-Treanor’s Surgery a Success
After a Dancing with the Stars competition-ending Achilles injury, Misty May-Treanor has completed a successful surgery to repair the tendon.
“Thanks for all your concern and well wishes for Misty,” May-Treanor’s representative told Us. “I wanted to let you all know Misty had a successful surgery on her ruptured Achilles this morning. She is currently at home recovering. Her husband, Matt, is with her.”
Doctors estimate that it will take approximately nine months for May-Treanor’s Achilles tendon to fully heal.
May-Treanor appeared on Dancing with the Stars’ performance show on Monday — wearing a brace on her left leg and bound to crutches — to announce her departure from the show.
“It felt like I got hit in the back with a baseball bat,” she told Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron of the injury, which she first noticed after hearing a “pop” after jumping backwards and landing on her left foot. “I was like ‘Ok I’m an athlete. Tape it up and get right back out there.’ I tried to put more weight on it and it just felt like nothing was there. I didn’t have an ankle, I didn’t have a foot,” she added.
It’s great to hear that Misty is doing well. I think she had a real chance at winning the competition… At least she has that little volleyball career to fall back on!
