David Cook Wants New Album to Make You Jump Off Building

… REALLY? His performances were among the most edgy of American Idol’s history, but that’s not good enough for recent season winner David Cook who’s putting the finishing touches on his debut album.

“I’m not trying to surprise people now: I’m putting out a rock record. I just want the songs to kick you in the teeth or make you want to cry — or do something drastic, like jump off a building. I want somebody to be exhausted when they’re done listening,” said Cook who enlisted the help of Green Day producer Rob Cavallo.

Expressing how important (and impromptu) getting to know Cavallo after the AI tour was, Cook puts forth probably one of the best descriptions in journalistic history -

“But you can’t expect anybody else to invest themselves emotionally in a record if you can’t do it yourself. It was really scary — the best analogy I can come up with is that it was like taking off your clothes in church.”
