Doin’ The Cabbage Patch: Sarah Palin, Barack Obama et al.

Presidential elections are always good for novelty items, but this election season really takes the cake.  Last month we told you about the Sarah Palin action figures.  Now the makers of Cabbage Patch Dolls, Jakks Pacific, have created special-edition Cabbage Patch versions of candidates Barack Obama, Joe Biden, John McCain and Sarah Palin.

“These four folks in particular seemed like the perfect candidates, if you will, to become one-of-a-kind Cabbage Patch Kids,” said a spokeswoman for Jakks Pacific, which manufactures the dolls. “We’ve had a great history with making celebrity look-alikes with these kids. We’ve done everyone from Elvis to Donald Trump to Ellen (DeGeneres) and Oprah (Winfrey).”

The dolls will be featured in an eBay auction benefiting the US Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program.  The auction will also include “6 limited edition 25th anniversary dolls identical to those Cabbage Patch Kids first created in 1983.”

I was too old to catch the Cabbage Patch craze, but boy did my little sister ever have it.  I think they’re slightly less scary looking now than they were then, but those things used to give me nightmares.  I think Jakks did a really good job of making these dolls look just like their real-life counterparts though!
