Big Changes for Next Season of ‘American Idol’

Adding fourth judge, Kara DioGuardi, is not the only big change we will see in the next season of American Idol. A significant one will be a special “Wild Card” round, which will air on March 5 and feature each semifinalist group’s highest remaining vote-getter, an individual that didn’t automatically advance to the finals. This singer, along with additional semifinalists that the judges select, will receive a second chance to perform. Following the performances of these Wild Cards, the judges – as opposed to home viewers – will immediately select three of them to complete the season’s twelve finalists.

Here are some other changes being unveiled in season #8:

  • Fewer awful singers during auditions;
  • A top 36, as opposed to the usual top 24 semifinalsts;
  • The elimination, due to the economy, of Idol Gives Back.

I am so sad to see that Idol Gives Back won’t be part of the season. They could still do something, even if was on a smaller scale. However, I am glad there will be other changes made that could breathe new life into the program. Last season was the best yet, so there are high expectations for the one to come!
