MTV Debuts 8 New Reality Shows in 2009

Seriously, MTV… I thought your name was “Music Television”. What’s up with all the reality shows? While I am, of course, obsessed with The Hills and The City, are 8 new reality shows really necessary or warranted?

MTV has announced Rob Dydrek’s Fantasy Factory, The CollegeHumor Show, Nitro Circus, How’s Your News?, Daddy’s Girls, The Girls of Hedsor Hall, College Life, and an untitled performing arts reality project.

“This is a generation with the bravado and drive to reinvent the world, and the ingenuity to actually pull it off,” said Brian Graden, who is President of Entertainment MTV Networks Music Group. “These new series reflect Generation ‘Why Not?’, living, working and playing on their own terms, ‘adventure capitalists’ if you will, pursuing a variety of thrill seeking, 2.0, express-yourself enterprises.”

The only one I am excited about is Daddy’s Girls, which is the Run’s House spin-off following Rev Run‘s daughter’s Vanessa and Angela’s move to Los Angeles. It’s like the opposite premise of The City, and it’ll be cool to see the contrasts. It begins next week at 10:30pm Easter after The City.
