Stooges Guitarist Ron Asheton, Dead at 60

He was ranked at #29 on Rolling Stone‘s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list, and alongside the iconic Iggy Pop and as an integral part of the Stooges, Ron Asheton made his mark with his amazing contributions to contemporary rock music.

Found in his Ann Arbor, MI home this morning, Asheton had been dead for several days – presumably of a heart attack.  Investigators do not suspect foul play at this point.  He was 60 years old.

Having split from the group after the commercial failure of their Raw Power album, Asheton later reunited along with his former band mates in 2003 performing and recording their 2007 release The Weirdness.

Check out a photo memorial to Asheton here.
