Backseat Cuddler’s 66th Golden Globe Awards Predictions

The Golden Globe Awards for this year have arrived. In just a little under three hours the show will start. I decided I would try and predict who I think I will win. (Note: This is just for fun, I really may or may not know what I am talking about.) And during the show you can catch me live-blogging here.

(My winning choices are bolded.)

Film Nominations:

Best motion picture drama
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”
“Frost/Nixon”
“The Reader”
“Revolutionary Road”
“Slumdog Millionaire”

Everyone who is someone has something good to say about this movie. It should win hands down. (I am partial to The Reader though.)

Best motion picture musical or comedy
“Burn After Reading”
“Happy-Go-Lucky”
“In Bruges”
“Mamma Mia!”
“Vicky Cristina Barcelona”

Again, I think that Mamma Mia broke records on how good it was. Besides it was a musical. All women like musicals!

Best actor, drama
Leonardo DiCaprio, “Revolutionary Road”
Frank Langella, “Frost/Nixon”
Sean Penn, “Milk”
Brad Pitt, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”
Mickey Rourke, “The Wrestler”

Frank Langella is only playing one of the most famous presidents of the United States, Richard Nixon, that in itself is awesome. (I am partial to Leonardo DiCaprio though, but just because I still think he was hot in The Titanic.)

Best actress, drama
Anne Hathaway, “Rachel Getting Married”
Angelina Jolie, “Changeling”
Meryl Streep, “Doubt”
Kristin Scott Thomas, “I’ve Loved You So Long”
Kate Winslet, “Revolutionary Road”

It’s a toss up between Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep but I am sure Anne will win it. She has proven to everyone that she’s an amazing actress.

Best actor, musical or comedy
Javier Bardem, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”
Colin Farrell, “In Bruges”
James Franco, “Pineapple Express”
Brendan Gleeson, “In Bruges”
Dustin Hoffman, “Last Chance Harvey”

I say Colin Farrell because who wouldn’t want to see what kind of speech he would come up with. Those people better get ready with the censorship button now!

Best actress in a musical or comedy
Kristen Bell, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”
Sally Hawkins, “Happy-Go-Lucky”
Frances McDormand, “Burn After Reading”
Meryl Streep, “Mamma Mia!”
Emma Thompson, “Last Chance Harvey”

Meryl Streep will probably win it but since I love Kristen Bell’s character on Heroes I’m gonna go with her. Let’’s hope she gets an award because she has like ten jobs (she also does the voice of the gossip girl on Gossip Girl.)

Best supporting actor in a motion picture
Tom Cruise, “Tropic Thunder”
Robert Downey Jr., “Tropic Thunder”
Ralph Fiennes, “The Duchess”
Philip Seymour Hoffman, “Doubt”
Heath Ledger, “The Dark Knight”

Heath Ledger will of course win it. He really took over that movie…he made The Joker his own by even improvising the mannerisms the Joker would have.

Best supporting actress in a motion picture
Amy Adams, “Doubt”
Penelope Cruz, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”
Viola Davis, “Doubt”
Marisa Tomei, “The Wrestler”
Kate Winslet, “The Reader”

Kate Winslet did an awesome job and the transformation she went through was amazing. I hope she wins this one.

Best director, motion picture
Danny Boyle, “Slumdog Millionaire”
Stephen Daldry, “The Reader”
David Fincher, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”
Ron Howard, “Frost/Nixon”
Sam Mendes, “Revolutionary Road

Again everyone has been talking about this movie. For sure the best director should be for Danny Boyle.

The rest of the predictions after the jump…

Best screenplay, motion picture
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” Eric Roth, Robin Swicord
“Doubt,” John Patrick Shanley
“Frost/Nixon,” Peter Morgan
“The Reader,” David Hare
“Slumdog Millionaire,” Simon Beaufoy

Three words. Best. Movie. Ever.

Best original song, motion picture
“Bolt” (”I Thought I Lost You”)
“Cadillac Records” (”Once in a Lifetime”
“Gran Torino” (”Gran Torino”)
“WALL-E” (”Down to Earth”)
“The Wrestler” (”The Wrestler”)

I wish that WALL-E would win but The Wrestler has Bruce Springsteen. How can they say no to that?

Best original score, motion picture
“Changeling,” Clint Eastwood
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” Alexandre Desplat
“Defiance,” James Newton Howard
“Frost/Nixon,” Hans Zimmer
“Slumdog Millionaire,” A.R. Rahman

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button’s soundtrack is different from the rest and is sure to score extra points for that. It would be nice to see Clint Eastwood to win an award for that though.

Best animated film
“Bolt”
“Kung Fu Panda”
“WALL-E”

WALL-E was an amazing movie.

Best foreign-language film
“The Baader Meinhof Complex”
“Maria Larssons eviga ogonblick”
“Gomorra”
“I’ve Loved You So Long”
“Waltz With Bashir”

TV Nominations:

Best television series drama
“Dexter”
“House”
“In Treatment”
“Mad Men”
“True Blood”

It’s all about the vampires this year. This show will for sure win. (I’m partial to House though. It is so good this year!)

Best television musical or comedy
“Californication”
“Entourage”
“The Office”
“30 Rock”
“Weeds”

The Office makes me laugh every time I watch it. I think for that it needs the award.

Best miniseries of made-for-television movie
“Bernard and Doris”
“Cranford”
“John Adams”
“A Raisin in the Sun”
“Recount”

Best actor in a television series, drama
Gabriel Byrne, “In Treatment”
Michael C. Hall, “Dexter”
Jon Hamm, “Mad Men”
Hugh Laurie, “House”
Jonathan Rhys Meyers, “The Tudors”

Hugh Laurie makes everyone hate the cranky doctor. I think he does a great job.

Best actress in a television series, drama
Sally Field, “Brothers & Sisters”
Mariska Hargitay, “Law & Order: SVU”
January Jones, “Mad Men”
Anna Paquin, “True Blood”
Kyra Sedgwick, “The Closer”

Anna Paquin has come a long way. And with this vampire theme going on, she’ll win.

Best actor in a miniseries or movie
Ralph Fiennes, “Bernard and Doris”
Paul Giamatti, “John Adams”
Kevin Spacey, “Recount”
Kiefer Sutherland, “24: Redemption”
Tom Wilkinson, “Recount”

I’ve heard so many people say that they loved the 24 mini-series. Kiefer Sutherland better win.

Best actress in a miniseries or movie
Judi Dench, “Cranford”
Catherine Keener, “An American Crime”
Laura Linney, “John Adams”
Shirley MacLaine, “Coco Chanel”
Susan Sarandon, “Bernard and Doris”

Best actor in a television series, musical or comedy
Alec Baldwin, “30 Rock”
Steve Carell, “The Office”
Kevin Connolly, “Entourage”
David Duchovny, “Californication”
Tony Shalhoub, “Monk”

I think that Alec Baldwin has made a name for himself on TV.

Best actress in a television series, musical or comedy
Christina Applegate, “Samantha Who?”
America Ferrera, “Ugly Betty”
Tina Fey, “30 Rock”
Debra Messing, “The Starter Wife”
Mary-Louise Parker, “Weeds”

Fighting Cancer and coming back all in one year will help Christina Applegate win this award. But Tina Fey was good too, I am loving Tina now!

Best supporting actor in a series, miniseries or made-for-television movie
Neil Patrick Harris, “How I Met Your Mother”
Denis Leary, “Recount”
Jeremy Piven, “Entourage”
Blair Underwood, “In Treatment”
Tom Wilkinson, “John Adams”

I’m partial to comedy so I think Neil Patrick Harris will win it.

Best supporting actress in a series, miniseries or made-for-television movie
Eileen Atkins, “Cranford”
Laura Dern, “Recount”
Melissa George, “In Treatment”
Rachel Griffiths, “Brothers & Sisters”
Dianne Wiest, “In Treatment”

I hope that I get at least one of these predictions right. We’ll see when I live blog it.
