Ever since Jessica Simpson showed up at the Radio 99.9 Kiss Country’s Annual Chili Cookoff this past Sunday in some high-waisted, skin tight jeans and a tight tank, the entertainment industry has been going crazy about her obvious weight gain. Sister Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has lashed out at the media for the scrutiny in a blog entry titled: “Since when did a woman’s weight become newsworthy.”
Here’s what it said:
“A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman’s weight or figure.”
Standing in defense of her big sis, she added, “All women come in different shapes, sizes, and forms and just because you’re a celebrity, there shouldn’t be a different standard.”
Ashlee also showed concern for girls growing up in such a critical society, asking, “How can we expect teenage girls to love and respect themselves in an environment where we criticize a size 2 figure? Now can we focus on the things that really matter?”
Sorry, Ash, but there’s no way on earth that Jessica is a size 2. I agree that we should probably lay off of her a little. She’s obviously happy and has found a guy that loves her for who she is. And true, there are much bigger things to be thinking about in this world than a woman’s weight. I would love it if what Jessica looked like now was the Hollywood standard for beauty. Or even if the American average- a size 12- was the Hollywood standard. However, you should probably remove yourself from dreamland in thinking she’s still the rock-hard hottie that sported daisy dukes in the Dukes of Hazzard a few years ago.
