Miley Cyrus Addresses Racist Accusations On Her Site

Miley Cyrus Making Slant Eyes

I guess to save face, Miley Cyrus apologized to the public for the picture of her that’s being knocked for being racist.  I understand why she said sorry, I just don’t think I would have done it.  This picture is innocent!  It’s not a nip slip, or a racy pose!!  Geesh!

“I’ve also been told there are some people upset about some pictures taken of me with friends making goofy faces! Well, I’m sorry if those people looked at those pics and took them wrong and out of context!” she writes on her official fansite.

“In NO way was I making fun of any ethnicity! I was simply making a goofy face. When did that become newsworthy?” she adds. “It seems someone is trying to make something out of nothing to me. If that would of [sic] been anyone else, it would of been overlooked! I definitely feel like the press is trying to make me out as the new ‘BAD GIRL’!”

Cyrus continues: “I feel like now that Britney is back on top of her game again, they need someone to pick on! Lucky me! haha Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know what is on my heart. You guys know me and have been by my side every step of the way!

“You guys know my heart and know the most important things to me are my friends, family, fans, and GOD! In NO WAY do I want to disappoint any of you! But, when I have made mistakes in the past, I feel like I’ve owned up to them and apologized,” she adds

“I really wish everyone would stop focusing on my personal life and get back to focusing on what I love! Music and Acting! Hopefully, I will be touring again this fall! Yayy! =] It will be a nice change to be back out on the road again!” Cyrus goes on, before signing off “bexoxo blessings…Miley =)”

Advocate group OCA released a statement earlier saying the 16 year old “encouraged and legitimized the taunting and mocking of people of Asian descent, [and] she has also insulted her many Asian Pacific American fans.”

In April 2008, she was criticized by parenting groups after pictures surfaced of her posing in green bra. A few months later, she apologized after posing semi-nude in Vanity Fair.

Her racy photos might be a story but, I think this is so very LAME.  Miley was not being racist!  She was being a kid, having fun with her friends.  For the love of Pete, everyone needs to calm down.

it may seem like that from the picture. I mean look at the picture, all the “white” people are the only one’s making the face but the only asian guy there isn’t posing at all. They even have the sterotypical asian tourist peace sign being made in the background. Its just a bad call.

just because it’s not intentional, or that shes a kid doesn’t make it not racist. I know plenty of people, teens and adults, that make faces and say stuff like “ching chong” or “pork fried riice!!!” into Asian people’s faces and they really don’t understand that what they’re doing is wrong and freaking ignorant. I also have found that although a lot of parents don’t condone that kind of thing or promote it or anything they also don’t bring it up with their kids specifically and speak to them and explain that it’s wrong/racist. Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana is a role model for her young fans/audience and unfortunately she does have that responsibility to be more aware of her actions and doing this is just one more (on top of their friends who too don’t understand their actions) that it’s not not okay. And I know a lot of people (most of whom probably haven’t experienced this kind of thing) who say that making little jokes like this is no big deal don’t realize that it is for many…maybe not for all Asians or groups but for those who suffer through these kinds of racist jokes all the time and are constantly being singled out by them…especially kids and teens who don’t have much defense against it. A lot of a little is a lot.

I hope people can learn from my post.

i don’t think that photo is racist. I’m an Asian and we do make faces too. Sometimes people are trying to be TOO self-righteous. we look for things that are beyond what normal people would think.
