Nick Wolfwood’s Summer Movie Preview 2009 – May 15th
I’m Nick Wolfwood, and I’m counting down all this summer’s movie releases, big and small, weekend by weekend from May 1st – August 28th.
Here’s what’s out on May 15th, 2009.
Angels & Demons
Starring: Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgård, Ayelet Zurer
What it’s about: Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon works to solve a murder and prevent a terrorist act against the Vatican.
Rating: PG-13
Thoughts: The DaVinci Code left a lot to be desired, it was almost too preachy. I haven’t read Angels & Demons, but it looks a lot better, plus I’m a Ewan McGregor fan.

Management
Starring: Jennifer Aniston, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Fred Ward, Gavin Bristol
What it’s about: A traveling art saleswoman tries to shake off a flaky motel manager who falls for her and won’t leave her alone.
Rating: TBA
Thoughts: I like the cast, but this movie just looks so run-o-the-mill.

Big Man Japan
Starring: Hitoshi Matsumoto, Riki Takeuchi, Ua, Ryûnosuke Kamiki
What it’s about: An eccentric man aged about 40 lives alone in a decrepit house in Tokyo. He periodically transforms into a giant, about 30 meters tall, and defends Japan by battling similarly sized monsters that turn up and destroy buildings.
Rating: PG-13
Thoughts: If they are bringing this out in the USA it’s got to have some value to it. I personally think it sounds hilarious.

The Brothers Bloom
Starring: Rachel Weisz, Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo, Rinko Kikuchi
What it’s about: The Brothers Bloom are the best con men in the world, swindling millionaires with complex scenarios of lust and intrigue. Now they’ve decided to take on one last job – showing a beautiful and eccentric heiress the time of her life with a romantic adventure that takes them around the world
Rating: PG-13
Thoughts: With these actors and this storyline, I’ll be going to see this one. Looks like a lot of fun.

O’Horten
Starring: Baard Owe, Espen Skjønberg, Ghita Nørby, Henny Moan
What it’s about: A drama focused on a life-changing moment in 67-year-old train engineer Odd Horten’s existence: the evening of his retirement
Rating: PG-13
Thoughts: I really don’t know much about this film but it sounds like it could be entertaining.
