Nick Wolfwood’s Summer Movie Preview 2009 – May 22nd
I’m Nick Wolfwood, and I’m counting down all this summer’s movie releases, big and small, weekend by weekend from May 1st – August 28th.
Here’s what opens on May 22nd:
Dance Flick
Starring: Marlon Wayans, Amy Sedaris, Shawn Wayans, David Alan Grier, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Chris Elliott
What it’s about: Street dancer Thomas Uncles is from the wrong side of the tracks, but his bond with the beautiful Megan White might help the duo realize their dreams as the enter in the mother of all dance battles.
Rating: TBA
Thoughts: I’m not expecting anything less than sheer stupidity from this movie.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
Starring: Amy Adams, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Jonah Hill, Robin Williams, Bill Hader, Craig Robinson, Hank Azaria, Ricky Gervais
What it’s about: Security guard Larry Daley infiltrates the Smithsonian Institute in order to rescue Jedediah and Octavius, who have been shipped to the museum by mistake.
Rating: TBA
Thoughts: This one is clearly aimed at the younger audience, it’s just sad that the studios think that kids can’t tell high quality from bad quality.

Easy Virtue
Starring: Jessica Biel, Ben Barnes, Kristin Scott Thomas, Colin Firth, Kimberley Nixon
What it’s about: A young Englishman marries a glamorous American. When he brings her home to meet the parents, she arrives like a blast from the future – blowing their entrenched British stuffiness out the window.
Rating: PG-13
Thoughts: I don’t think this movie could seem any less interesting.

The Girlfriend Experience
Starring: Sasha Grey, Chris Santos, Peter Zizzo
What it’s about: A revealing look at the world of prostitution from an elite call girl’s point of view.
Rating: TBA
Thoughts: This is a Steven Soderbergh film so I know it’ll be offbeat.

The Limits of Control
Starring: Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Gael García Bernal, Paz de la Huerta, Hiam Abbass, Isaach De Bankolé
What it’s about: The story of a mysterious loner, a stranger in the process of completing a criminal job.
Rating: TBA
Thoughts: The cast is a solid draw for me but description of the film is a little vague. I imagine we’ll start hearing more about this film soon.
