Madonna “Unrecognizably Angry” Over Adoption Denial
Madonna‘s plans to adopt another child from Malawi (apparently she needed a matched set?) were foiled this week when her bid was denied by Judge Esme Chombo.
The petition was denied on the basis of residency. Malawi has strict residency rules for adoptions, specifying that prospective adoptive parents must live in the country for at least 18 months. This rule was waived so that Madge could adopt son David Banda in 2006. Judge Chombo said:
“According to information from the global media, the Petitioner jetted in during the weekend. In my considered opinion, this would remove the Petitioner from the definition of a resident.”
The judge, who said residency was the “bedrock” of protection for children, also warned celebrity adoptions could increase child trafficking if her country opened its doors “too wide”.
“The point need not be over-emphasised that material needs of a child in America are better provided for than in Malawi. However, in our quest to ensure that the children are well provided for, it should be borne in mind that inter-country adoptions are not the only solutions.”
Schooled! However, Madonna evidently did not like this at ALL. She had been told that three year old Mercy James was “definitely hers” and went kind of nuts when given the news. She “stormed off” after getting word from her lawyer. Witnesses said:
“She was unrecognisably angry — she seemed in emotional agony. We couldn’t tell if she was crying, but her daughter Lourdes ran and put her arms round her. Madonna said to her lawyer, ‘This is the worst day of my life’.
She yelled at him, ‘What went wrong? How could this happen’? He was staring at the ground.”
A family friend commented:
“This is a massive embarrassment for her. She is furious, shocked, devastated and cannot believe what’s happened.”
I think Madge got exactly what she deserved. She has poured millions in donations to orphans in Malawi, and thinks that can buy her a child? Hopefully this slap in the face will bring her crazy ass to its senses!
