Boston HATES Jay Leno!
Yes, it seems that Boston is not happy with the new network scheduling for Jay Leno coming in at the 10pm time slot. So, they are just going to simply ban him. Huh? Why? How? Whatever!!
WHDH announced Thursday that it will not carry Leno’s show and instead will run local news at 10pm. NBC fired back that the move would violate the station’s affiliation agreement. The network has already threatened to move its programming to another station in the market, possibly the NBC-owned Telemundo outlet.
However it plays out, the action by WHDH is a giant vote of no confidence in NBC’s bold cost-saving move to have Leno replace high-priced and often low-rated scripted dramas at 10pm. NBC came up with the plan as a way to keep Leno from going to a late-night competitor after handing the Tonight Show off to Conan O’Brien in May. The network’s execs admit that Leno won’t generate the ratings of a hit drama at 10pm, but they believe there will be enough viewers in the advertiser targeted 18- to 49-year-old demographic to make the hour profitable.
Obviously opinions will be going every which way. Some will watch Leno, some will refuse. Some people feel quite strongly about it. Actually, I think a lot of people hate NBC, not Leno. I personally think that WHDH is making a huge mistake. We shall see. I know I’ll be watching!
