‘American Idol’ Will Soon Return to Four Judge Critique

This was a week of firsts on American Idol. Because of the major time overage of last week’s show, the judges tag teamed in pairs of 2 during critique time. That meant Simon only judged half the contestants. The other first was that Matt Giraud was the first ever contestant in the history of the show to be saved for another week by the judges, despite receiving the least number of votes.
Well the judges save won’t happen again this season, and the tag team judging may not either.
Kara Dioguardi says the two-judge format could be a one-time thing on “American Idol.” Dioguardi, who was paired with Randy Jackson, says she learned of the format change shortly before the telecast. She says it was a “safety” measure because last week’s performance show ran over schedule.
Simon Cowell blamed her and Paula Abdul for talking too much. Dioguardi jokingly responds that Cowell will never blame himself for “Idol” snafus.
While I am PUMPED about the judges’ save, the two judges per contestant thing sucked. I’ll be happy when it goes back to normal. Each judge just needs to say a couple thoughts and move on.
