“New Moon” Halted – Stephanie Meyer Accused Of Plagiarism
The production of the Twilight sequel “New Moon” was halted after Heidi Stanton accused her former roommate Stephanie Meyer of plagiarism. Apparently Heidi hasn’t been living in this world for the past year and didn’t know what “Twilight” was really about until she finally saw the movie on DVD and realized it was very similar to a short story she had wrote back in 1993.
“Quite frankly, I was shocked when I began watching the movie with my husband last week. I immediately told him that she got that idea from me! I wrote a fictional short story with the same ideas when we were in college together.” stated Stanton.
Heidi and Stephanie were roommates during their sophomore year at a campus dormitory at the Brigham Young University during the early 1990′s. Although Stephanie claims the story came to her in a dream in 2003, it seems like Heidi has proof and one professor who clearly remembers her short story.
Mrs. Stanton’s claims have some credence to them as she has documented proof that a short story with very similar idea was written by her in 1993 while she was a sophomore at BYU. English department chairperson Dr. Peter Benton was at the time a second year professor of writing and distinctly remembers Ms. Stanton’s prolific writing style and the vampire story in particular.
“The story stood out in my mind, at the time, because it was more advanced than most sophomore students usually presented, also the vampire story stood out because I had recently taught a series of lectures on Brahm Stoker’s Dracula.” claims Dr. Benton. “I felt at the time that Heidi had brought a very current and up to date look at a classic subject.”
There is no word on if and when the production of “New Moon” will be resumed and the 2009 release date is in jeopardy. This will make a lot of crazy fans really mad!

Omg they r right on one thing…. THIS WILL MAKE TWILIGHT FANS MAD IF THEY POST PONE THE DATE! >:( I really hope this is another one of those rumors. If not I am really disappointed. The short story has to be very similar 2 her book then. (Sparkly Vampires who r fast and strong with special abilities. And one falls in love with a girl and so does the girl, and hew won’t hurt her) So yeah……………..
Hope stephenie meyer really did dream of it.
-Hoping its another rumor :l
This is rediculous!!!! I don’t care if Stephanie Meyer plagarized!!! Everyone loves these books and they can’t just stop the movie after so many fans have been wating for this!!! And besides that other girl is just jealous because she didn’t get famous for writing a book!!!
I Agree With Taylor. I Have Been Waiting A Very Long Time For New Moon Hope It’s A Rumorrr
same! i really hope its just another rumor! i know stephenie dreamed of it…
It has been proven that this rumor is false, and has been denied on Stephenie Meyer’s official website.
It won’t get postponed, there will probably be some sort of litigation but this will not hurt the movies. It’s too late. I can see her old roommate getting some money out of it, but thats it.
Honestly, what do you think Meyer would do? She won’t admit if she did steal the idea for the book. I hope she did. The Twilight series sucks to be honest. I bet her ex room mate could have written a better book. I could have, too. -.-
yah…fortunately I agree with every1 link in this blog..
and if ever she plagiarize…why does this classm8 of her just complained now that all the books were published!
I agree, too much money has been invested in the movie and the people connected with the movie could turn around and counter sue for their lost investments, etc.,
the cant postpone it i have been waiting for it to come out for ages and i love the books. i know she dreampt it and that other person is just selfish because she cant stand the fact that her old friend got famouse and she didnt. also the story itself shouldnt be that good but its the way she wrote it and the detail she put in that made it so popular!!!
are you kidding.. she says she just watched the movie??? where has this girl been that twilight went world wide.. EVERYBODY knows about twilight in some form or another.. where is this girl living, under a rock. i mean seriously it sucks IF she did plagirized but i mean really? where has this girl been. the books have been published starting in 2005 and the last book 2008. seriously..
oh please.
underworld, twilight, new-moon, blue-moon – it´s all the same, all of them had stolen the ideas from white wolf’s RPG books.
They should make this film, but s. myers could at least admit that much of the ideas she had, were not originally hers.
I agree with Elynn, everything these days is taken off of something. It doesn’t matter what it is Movies, tv shows, music. No one comes up with anything original. And Bella Chase has a good point too. The books have been out since 2005 and Meyer was writer of the year back then and the girl (women, crybaby) whatever you want to call her is just noticing all this now. I think that she did know about this a long time ago. She was just waiting to see HOW famous Meyer would become so she can milk it for whatever it is worth. And what she wrote was SHORT STORIES. What Meyer wrote was far from short. So if she did plagerize how much could she have possibly gotten from this idiot complaining.
I know it will piss me off if it doesn’t come out at the expected time!!!
Everybody is inspired by something, a flower, a piece of music, or as Rowan Atkinson in the Blackadder Series so aptly put it: “the glistening tear on the cheeck of a golden child” – who isn’t? How many years has to pass before this woman, who so conveniently has a college professor to back up her story, realises that, “hey, this hype that’s been going on for more than 5 years, is all about my story?” Sweetypie27 and Elynn are both correct – when it comes to money, people tend to wait to see how much they can muscle in on. Wake up Ms. Stanton – if YOU were so talented, and had so many stories to tell, the Twilight Series would have been written by YOU, not Stephanie Meyer!
ok so im like 13 and i read like all of those books in under a month thats how i started reading and now my therapist say’s i have the iq of 125 and now i cant stop reading if staphanie did plagerise the shame on her but i dont think she stole the overall point their love is inevitable and if they stop production then im gonna have to do something about it and its not like they can take back all the books if they stop then someone’s just gonna playgerise it in the near future i dont think they should stop just give her a portion of the money not a big deal she needs to come from under the rock and should have seen it earlier and maybe it was stephanie’s idea i mean great minds think alike.I mean just cuz she couldnt get to it first she shouldnt front she’s just tryin to get attention of corse she should get recognized for it but ither then that watever
Isn’t it funny how whenever someone starts finding success with anything creative, people start coming out of the woodwork to claim that person’s success as their own. Even if the two women had similar ideas for stories way back when, who’s to say they weren’t both just equally inspired by the study of Bram Stoker’s work? Plus, it’s one thing to have an idea, and it’s another thing to be able to bring it to life. My advice to Heidi Stanton is to take inspiration from what can be achieved, and if she really believes her own ideas are that good, to just go ahead and create something. If it’s her ideas that are really the source, then she should have no trouble coming up with a bunch more and finding her own success.
