Ex- Governor Rod Blagojevich Won’t be a Reality TV Star

Rod Blagojevich

Apparently not understanding the severity of the charges he faces, indicted ex-governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, was denied his request to be part of a reality show which would film in Costa Rica. He was set to participate in NBC’s summer revival of I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!, but will now only be able to say that from behind his prison cell walls when he goes to jail.

“It’s way too soon. I don’t think this defendant in all honesty … fully understands the position he finds himself in,” said U.S. District Judge James Zagel said in his denial of Blagojevich’s request, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday.

Blagojevich faces up to 30 years in prison at his upcoming trial on federal racketeering and fraud charges, which Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Shar noted could be enough of a reason for Blagojevich to flee if he was allowed to leave the United States for Costa Rica, according to the Sun-Times.

Blago wouldv’e brought in over $120,000 for his participation, but prosecutors also noted that it could be difficult for the United States to extradite Blagojevich back from Costa Rica if he were to decide not to return. Um, yeh. Seems like they made the right decision, eh? However, it would’ve been funny to see him go up against losers Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag who are slated to be contestants on the show.
