Beyonce is executive producer of the new movie Obsessed, released yesterday. She’s also one of the movie’s stars, and spoke with Parade Magazine about her character, and her violent fight scene with co-star Ali Larter.
On playing an “Independent Woman”:
“It was so much fun being able to let out all my aggression. My character is an everyday woman — a wife, a mother — who is tested. But instead of being the victim and calling her husband or the police when she’s afraid, she takes charge. I think that’s really empowering. Usually in films it’s the man that comes in and saves the day, not a woman. She literally fights for what she believes in.”
On literally fighting with Ali Larter:
“It was a difficult, very, very physical and draining. We were bruised up. And they did close-ups of me actually punching a wall and banging my head against it. There were times we had to laugh to keep from crying. But it definitely was worth all of the bruises and the blood and the exhaustion.”
On doing that fight scene – in HEELS:
“It was actually a producer of the film who said, ‘When I think of you, I think of heels.’ So I didn’t take them off when we were clobbering each other. I wanted to use everything that makes me feel strong and powerful. And, believe it or not, heels just turn me into Sasha Fierce, so it kind of gave me that extra power that I needed.”
I have a whole new respect for Beyonce now. She kicks ass wearing heels until she’s bloody and bruised. Dang, girl!
