I’m Nick Wolfwood, and I’m counting down all this summer’s movie releases, big and small, weekend by weekend from May 1st – August 28th.
Here’s what opens on June 26th:

My Sister’s Keeper
Starring: Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin, Alec Baldwin, Thomas Dekker, Sofia Vassilieva, Joan Cusack
What it’s about: A former attorney returns to the courtroom after a young teen learns the truth behind her conception, and looks to be emancipated from her parents.
Rating: PG-13
Thoughts: This is certainly a departure from the roles Cameron Diaz usually plays, it sounds like it might be good but doesn’t strike me as a summer blockbuster.

The Girl From Monaco
Starring: Fabrice Luchini, Roschdy Zem, Stéphane Audran, Gilles Cohen
What it’s about: A bodyguard hired to look after a lawyer ends up protecting the man from himself in this breezy comedy from France.
Rating: R
Thoughts: Can’t say this sounds like a must-see import, the reviews aren’t all that great either.

The Hurt Locker
Starring: Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Guy Pearce, Ralph Fiennes
What it’s about: Iraq. Forced to play a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse in the chaos of war, an elite Army bomb squad unit must come together in a city where everyone is a potential enemy and every object could be a deadly bomb.
Rating: R
Thoughts: The cast is good and the story sounds interesting, but this isn’t going to be a big hit right now. People want escapism at the movies, not realistic stuff about Iraq.

Paris
Starring: Juliette Binoche, Romain Duris, Mélanie Laurent, Cédric Klapisch
What it’s about: Pierre, a professional dancer, suffers from a serious heart disease. While he is waiting for a transplant which may (or may not) save his life…
Rating: R
Thoughts: The reviews for this film are pretty positive, it must have some good quality if Juliette Binoche is the star.

Surveillance
Starring: Julia Ormond, Bill Pullman, Pell James, Ryan Simpkins, French Stewart, Kent Harper
What it’s about: An FBI agent tracks a serial killer with the help of three of his would-be victims – all of whom have wildly different stories to tell.
Rating: R
Thoughts: Sounds like a pretty cool concept, I like movies with split stories like this.
