Anoop Desai is quite an interesting dude. He constantly wears 5 layers of super-preppy clothing, but then tries to be Mr. R&B man. After his elimination (FINALLY!) from American Idol on Wednesday, he explained what he wants next from his career… and what he wants is to be the next Neyo. Righhhhhhht.
Despite previously being enrolled in graduate school, competing on Idol has made him realize that he wants to pursue a music career full-time instead. “I’m definitely gonna pursue a music career. If I’ve learned nothing else from this experience it is that singing is what I am the happiest doing and I think it’s what I do the best,” he told reporters. “I really like the things that Neyo’s doing right now. I thing that’s the direction, obviously not a copycat, but I’m really interested in pursuing that direction in music.”
Desai also said that he and Lil Rounds — who he credited with keeping him from “wallowing” after Wednesday night’s elimination — have both already begun talking about the albums they wanted to begin working on.
“We are both proud of ourselves for how far we’ve come and we’re both eager to start working on albums,” Desai said. “She has a very clear idea of what she wants to do, I know that I wanna go the pop/R&B route. I know that I wanna put my own soul into pop songs.”
In my humble, yet accurate opinion, Anoop Desai made it about 3 weeks too long, at a minimum. He’s lucky he even got that 13th spot in the finals. That horrible Usher performance should have either been his last or never happened at all. I was really impressed with him last week, I must admit. However, his attitude with the judges sucked, his style didn’t match his music, he never did anything creative, and he never picked the right songs. That being said, it’s great that he’s following his dreams… But I’ll never buy any record he puts out.
