Miss California Carrie Prejean was thrown for a loop last night at the Miss USA pageant when she got asked a hard question by blogger, Perez Hilton. He asked her what she thought about legalizing gay marriage. She answered the following.
“Well I think its great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.”
She said earlier today on the Billy Bush Show that that answer cost her the crown.
“It did cost me my crown. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do.” She added, “It is a very touchy subject, and [Hilton] is a homosexual, and I see where he was coming from, and I see the audience would’ve wanted me to be more politically correct,” she added. “But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.”
I don’t know if I would have answered that way. I am totally behind gay marriage for awhile now. You should be able to marry the one that you love. And what is this the 1990′s? I think people are so close-minded. Yes, she stuck to her guns but she made herself look silly in the process.
On another note Perez was Twittering about how he has never received more gay hate mail than before today. I don’t know what’s wrong with this world.
