I’m Nick Wolfwood, and I’m counting down all this summer’s movie releases, big and small, weekend by weekend from May 1st – August 28th.
Here’s what opens on June 12th:

Imagine That
Starring: Eddie Murphy, Bobb’e J. Thompson, Thomas Haden Church, Nicole Ari Parker, James Patrick Stuart, Ronny Cox, Vanessa Williams
What it’s about: A financial executive (Murphy) who can’t stop his career downspiral is invited into his daughter’s imaginary world, where solutions to his problems await.
Rating: PG
Thoughts: Pretty much anything with Eddie Murphy in the last few years has be pretty bad, so I’m really not expecting a change here.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
Starring: John Travolta, Denzel Washington, John Turturro, James Gandolfini, Luis Guzmán
What it’s about: Armed men hijack a New York City subway train, holding the passengers hostage in return for a ransom, and turning an ordinary day’s work for dispatcher Walter Garbe into a face-off with the mastermind behind the crime.
Rating: R
Thoughts: Even with the good cast and good director this movie just looks so completely run-o-the-mill. I can’t say I have much interest in this at all.

Moon
Starring: Sam Rockwell, Kevin Spacey, Kaya Scodelario, Matt Berry
What it’s about: Astronaut Sam Bell has a quintessentially personal encounter toward the end of his three-year stint on the Moon, where he, working alongside his computer, GERTY, sends back to Earth parcels of a resource that has helped diminish our planet’s power problems.
Rating: R
Thoughts: This movie really looks interesting, I love this kind of stuff. Sam Rockwell is dynamic and engaging as an actor.

Tetro
Starring: Vincent Gallo, Maribel Verdú, Alden Ehrenreich, Klaus Maria Brandauer
What it’s about: Fresh faced and naïve, 17-year-old Bennie arrives in Buenos Aires to search for his older brother who has been missing for more than a decade. The family had emigrated from Italy to Argentina, but with the great musical success of their father Carlo, an acclaimed symphony conductor, the family moved from Argentina to New York. When Bennie finds his brother, the volatile and melancholy poet Tetro, he is not at all what he expected. In the course of staying with Tetro and his girlfriend Miranda, the two brothers grapple with the haunting experiences of their shared past.
Rating: TBA
Thoughts: It’s hard to say what I think about this one; sounds like it could be either good and touching, or maybe just really boring. Vincent Gallo is quite the bizarre character.
