Simon Cowell Still Thinks Adam Lambert Should Have Won, Calls Kris Allen a “Puppy Dog”

Kris Allen may have won American Idol by a large margin of votes, but Simon Cowell still thinks America made a mistake. He spoke to Ryan Seacrest about his true feelings regarding the result of this year’s show and where he thinks Kris Allen fits in with past winners. Here are the highlights:
“[Kris] is probably the right winner in terms of being a nice guy”… “[But] was he the best singer in the competition? No.”
“You know what my feeling on the show is,” Cowell added. “I mean he’s popular. If you allow America to vote, you live with the vote. I wouldn’t have said he was the best singer in the competition, no. He was like a little puppy dog.”
“Listen, congratulations Kris. Anyone that gets the public vote, good luck to them,” Cowell said later in his interview with Seacrest.
Cowell and Seacrest went on to determine who would be lower on the American Idol winner totem pole- determining Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard were the only ones worse than Kris. Um… 100 million votes were cast and Kris won by a lot. Obviously America chose the right person. The only really true Idol successful winners have been Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and David Cook. Chris Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson didn’t even make top three.
I really like Simon and respect his honesty, but sometimes he just needs to learn when to shut up. He tried his hardest to get American to vote for Adam. He practically begged us to… But Kris won. Get over it!!!

I do not think Kris Allen should have won, this is a singing competition not to see who is best looking. To me Adam & Danny should have been in the top 2. Danny & Adam could sing anything even the phone book. And I like Allison she could sing as well. I think the only reason why Adam did not win was because people looked on the outside & because he was gay, not because Adam could sing. Which Adam to me has an amazing voice. Danny I really think the only reason why he did not get it was because he is a Christian. Allison it was because some people thought the red hair was too much. But if you look at there talents instead of what is on the outside and look inside of a person America this is a singing competition not to see who looks better or has the best profile to fit America’s agenda. Kris Allen could not sing, America voted for him only because he is cute & looks good for America not because he can sing , because we all know that Kris can’t sing. I think Danny Gokey should have been the next American Idol because Danny is the only one to me that can really sing without screaming or trying to prove anything.
Don’t make Simon look bad for having an opinion. We all have our opinions, and we can clearly see yours.
Kris is TERRIBLE compared to Adam. And wtf does Kris do with his mouth when he sings? America did NOT get this right. 100 million votes is a lot, but how many of those were the SAME tenny-bopper putting the vote numbers on speed dial and voting over and over… Kris only got it ’cause the teeny-boppers voted for him, and not because he is a better singer than Adam – which anyone with any sort of tone recognition would agree with…
“In terms of nice guy” – ummmAdam is a really really nice guy
Well… the proof is in the pudding now. Adam’s album debuted at #3 and sold over 225,000 copies. Kris, poor thing, didn’t break the top ten and only sold 80,000 copies. Now, I’ll be the first to say that I personally couldn’t even sell 1 album – but when comparing the two, Adam is clearly the winner.
hi honestly the winner should have been adam he clearly had better vocals and range then anyone else on the show and it came to him so easily he didnt have to try that angelic voice and opera type wail that has a raw gritty edge comes to him naturaly the rest had to struggle and nothing impressive remotely came out of thier mouths but as far as kris allen he should have been one of the first ones kicked off i mean there were so many there vocally better then him and as far as a nice guy i have seen adam on interviews he seems like a very nice down to earth guy himself yeah hes over the top on stage sometimes but hes a performer and you are actually enjoying the show instead of merely throwing away your money watching someone stand in one spot mumbling the words to a song boring!i dont approve of homeasexuility i think its wrong but that his choice on his lifestyle but lets give credit where credit is due the boy can sing his ass orr and wail like no other simon had it right adam should have won and by the way kris cant carry a note in a bucket he has no pipes
and i hate the fact that simon is leaving the show he was the only judge that actually know what he was talking about he told the truth about the contests performances and if they couldnt sing he simply told them i will miss him he actually know talent when he heard it not only has idol lost the best vocalist they ever had by losing adam but now they will lose the only judge that knew what he was talking about they will both be missed terribly
i hate that simon is leaving idol he was the only judge that was honest about the contests performances and singing abilities if they couldnt sing he just told them and he actually knew talent when he heard it and he was usually right i dont blame him for leaving he was talking but no one was listening that why america usually got it wrong the only time they got it right was with david cook the biggest miss was with adam lambert he should have the 2009 american idol not kris no talent allen not only did idol lose its best vocalist ever when adam left but now they will lose the only judge who knew what he was talking about and always had it right
At first I was not impressed with how he expressed himself. And I loved Danny but as time went on there is no doubt Adam has the BEST voice. I have never heard anyone sing like Adam. I do not know what America was voting for when Kris was picked. Kris is a nice guy but Adam is an amazing performer.
Kris Allen sucks! He’s a mediocre karaoke singer, IF that! He is a lousy singer, does only COVERS, his 1st song is a cover, he just sang another slow beatles song on Idol; He STINKS!! ADAM LAMBERT IS A HUGE TALENTED and very nice and generous to boot! Kris shuldn’t have even been on Idol last season..He is mediocre!
I don’t believe for one second America voted for Kris. The vote was not legitimate. I’m not saying who or how, but I have no doubt that if it were possible to independently verify (not using FOX’s tech) just one vote from every person, Adam would’ve been the winner. He is the most popular by far.
Adam is amazing and the best singer Ive heard in many years he is the new Elvis. that standing ovation from Simon Cowell when he sung Mad world shows just how good he is. Love his album cant wait for the next one. I taped all his songs on the Idol shows.
I can’t believe after all this time, many people are still people out there spreading hate. It doesn’t say much for the integrity fo Adam lanberts fans.
I supported Kris during the competition and still think is awesome. Adam Lambert is both talented and a nice guy. Not sure why his fans are so bitter and hurtful.
@jmk: these people aren’t spreading hate. They’re just outraged–there’s a difference. But you have to admit–A idol is a popularity contest. And in such cases, good looks and charm often triumph even if the singing is substandard.
I didn’t watch this particular season of A idol but after discovering the outcome (and never having known Adam Lambert was an A idol contestant before), I must agree with those who think Adam Lambert should have won. It’s a bit embarassing for A idol winners not being able to show artistic talent outside A idol stage. This isn’t even considering how a fellow contestant outstripped Chris Allen in terms of popularity.
Doesn’t matter who won really! His first album was VERY successful and has had 72 performances of his own HEADLINING tour, Glam Nation and sold out nearly all of them. Now is heading out on his international portion! He is definitely a main attraction and will be extremely successful! I was fortunate enough to see the tour at the Tabernacle in Atlanta on September 15th and we got a special treat, a wonderful tribute to Longineu, the drummer. It was his last night with the band. They had a lot of fun on stage and the fans went crazy! (Including me)
