Jay Leno Says Goodbye To The ‘Tonight Show’

Jay Leno Last Show

Jay Leno said goodbye to the Tonight Show last night. I have to admit that when I was a teen I would always tape the shows that he would do the funny headlines in. I loved that segment. It will be weird to not see him on that show anymore.

Jay’s monologue was moving and provided many jabs to other celebrities…like Michael Jackson and Bill Clinton.

“Welcome to the exciting season finale of The Tonight Show…I  have to thank some people who made the show a success – Michael Jackson, Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton. … When I started this show, my hair was black and the president was white. … When we started the show, Jon and Kate were both 8. … I’m cleaning out my office today and I find O.J’s knife. I had it the whole time! … People say what are you going to do? Relax? I’m going to be in a secluded spot where no one can find me – NBC primetime!”

Jay had on guests Conan O’Brien, who will be taking over for him in a short month or so, and James Taylor. He also said that his mission for the 17 years that he was on the show was to make people laugh.

“People ask me if I’m sad. No, I’m very happy. When I took the show from Johnny (Carson) it was the No. 1 late night show on television. We’re handing it to Conan and it’s still No. 1. It means I get my security deposit back.”

And being a true gentleman his final segment was to salute all the babies that were born to the Tonight Show staff members in the 17 years (68 kids if you were wondering). That’s the way to go out.
