Nick Wolfwood’s Summer Movie Preview 2009 – August 7th

nwsmp09

I’m Nick Wolfwood, and I’m counting down all this summer’s movie releases, big and small, weekend by weekend from May 1st – August 28th.

Here’s what opens on August 7th:

gi-joe-22

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Starring: Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Byung-hun Lee, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Jonathan Pryce, Saïd Taghmaoui, Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Dennis Quaid

What it’s about:An elite military unit comprised of special operatives known as G.I. Joe, operating out of The Pit, takes on an evil organization led by a notorious arms dealer.

Rating: TBA

Thoughts: I spent weeks on the set of this movie, and from what I could tell it’s pretty much just a big marketing film. Sell toys, sell games, sell merchandise, sell, sell, sell.

juliejulia

Julie and Julia

Starring: Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Stanley Tucci, Chris Messina, Linda Emond, Helen Carey

What it’s about: Julia Child (Meryl Streep) and Julie Powell (Amy Adams) are featured in writer-director Nora Ephron’s adaptation of two bestselling memoirs: Powell’s Julie & Julia and My Life in France, by Julia Child with Alex Prud’homme.

Rating: PG-13

Thoughts: Meryl Streep is such an amazing actor, it’s always a pleasure to see her perform. I probably would have zero interest in this movie otherwise.

shorts_movie1-500x318

Shorts

Starring: Jimmy Bennett, Kat Dennings, Trevor Gagnon, Rebel Rodriguez, Jake Short, Leslie Mann, Jon Cryer, James Spader, William H. Macy

What it’s about: A young boy’s discovery of a colorful, wish-granting rock causes chaos in the suburban town of Black Falls when jealous kids and scheming adults alike set out to get their hands on it.

Rating: PG

Thoughts: Robert Rodriguez director of such films as Sin City and Desperado also has a solid history of kids films (Spy Kids, Shark Boy and Lava Girl). This seems like more of a story driven kids movie than his previous heavily effects-laden entries.

when-in-rome-1

When in Rome

Starring: Kristen Bell, Will Arnett, Josh Duhamel, Alexis Dziena, Danny DeVito, Dax Shepard, Jon Heder, Anjelica Huston, Don Johnson

What it’s about: Beth Harper (Bell) is a young, successful real estate agent … but she’s completely unlucky in love. However, when the New Yorker travels to Rome to see her newlywed sister, she impulsively steals some coins from a reputed fountain of love, and is then aggressively pursued by a band of wannabe lovers

Rating: TBA

Thoughts: A movie like this would normally not interest me at all but this one has a lot of talented actors from two different generations of hollywood. I’m still not rushing out to see it though.

paperheart

Paper Heart

Starring: Michael Cera, Jake M. Johnson, Demetri Martin, Seth Rogen, Charlyne Yi

What it’s about: A look at the relationship between two young actors.

Rating: PG-13

Thoughts: This is a strange documentary style love story with some really funny actors, I think this really has a lot of potential. Michael Cera is a very funny man.

Nick Wolfwood’s Summer Movie Preview 2009 – July 31st

nwsmp09

I’m Nick Wolfwood, and I’m counting down all this summer’s movie releases, big and small, weekend by weekend from May 1st – August 28th.

Here’s what opens on July 31st:

aliensattic

Aliens in the Attic

Starring: Ashley Tisdale, Robert Hoffman, Andy Richter, Doris Roberts, Austin Robert Butler, Kevin Nealon, Malese Jow, Tim Meadows

What it’s about: When Tom, Jake, and friends discover that the Aliens mind control guns do not work on kids, it is up to them to save their parents and the rest of the world from the invasion all before bed time.

Rating: TBA

Thoughts: Gather up the kids, this one is for them. I have to wonder if this movie will have more depth than saturday morning cartoons. Just because something is aimed at kids it should still live up to certain standards.

funny_people_movie_image_leslie_mann__adam_sandler__seth_rogen_and_eric_bana

Funny People

Starring: Eric Bana, Seth Rogen, Adam Sandler, Jonah Hill, Leslie Mann, Jason Schwartzman, Aziz Ansari, Ken Jeong

What it’s about: When seasoned comedian George Simmons learns of his terminal, inoperable health condition, his desire to form a genuine friendship cause him to take a relatively green performer under his wing as his opening act.

Rating: R

Thoughts: This is Judd Apatow‘s third round directing a film himself. Hopefully it’s as memorable as 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up

The Cove

Starring: Richard O’Barry

What it’s about: Using state-of-the-art equipment, a group of activists, led by renown dolphin trainer Ric O’Barry, infiltrate a cove near Taijii, Japan to expose both a shocking instance of animal abuse and a serious threat to human health

Rating: PG-13

le_silence_de_lorna_01

Lorna’s Silence

Starring: Arta Dobroshi, Jérémie Renier, Fabrizio Rongione, Alban Ukaj, Morgan Marinne

What it’s about: Sokol and Lorna, two Albanian emigrants in Belgium, dream of leaving their dreary jobs to set up a snack bar. They need money, and a permanent resident status. Claudy is a junkie – he needs money to satisfy his addiction. Andrei, the cigarette smuggler, must hold up for a while outside Russia; he has loads of money. Fabio, the Italian taxi driver and aspiring gang boss, elaborates a clever scheme: he will pay Claudy to marry Lorna so that she acquires a Belgian citizenship. Then she is to re-marry Andrei, who will in this way obtain the coveted EU passport – and pay a hefty price to Fabio and Lorna for the service. Like all plans, this one will not survive the contact with reality.

Rating: R

Thoughts: This movie has won a few awards, now it’s coming to the USA. I like a good foreign film, and this sounds like it will be.

First Clips from Heath Ledger’s Final Film ‘Imaginarium’

heath_ledger_parnassus2

Here are three of the very first clips from Heath Ledger‘s final film before his untimely death. The First clip from The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus features Ledger. The other two introduce other characters and show off some of the special effects we can expect.

This movie looks like it’s going to be very bizarre and good. Ledger was a truly gifted actor I’m sure this movie will be a great final illustration of that.

Beyonce Brings Back The Shoulder Pads

Beyonce and JayZ and the Shoulder Pads

Beyonce and husband, JayZ, were spotted hitting the Bungalow 8 nightclub in London last night. I love that jacket Beyonce is wearing the crazy shoulder pads. I thought that I was able to leave those behind to my younger years because I didn’t want to ever have to see them again.

Beyonce is currently starring in the movie, Obsessed, that also has my girl crush, Ali Larter in it. I have heard nothing but good things about Beyonce’s performance in the movie. Maybe she might have a career as an actress?

Alessandra Ambrosio Knows How To Flaunt It

Alessandra Ambrosio Victoria's Secret

Alessandra Ambrosio, the hottest mommy on the block is back. And I have to say she looks amazing. She is promoting the new bra for Victoria’s Secrets and was just working on the photo shoot this weekend. She just had her baby girl back in August and already less than a year later she is ready to bring it.

The amount of time she probably had to put into exercising to look like that. Alessandra call me, tell me all of your secrets.

Twitter Can Be Used For Good

Boston Police Twitter Stream

Twitter has honestly changed the world. I for one am addicted to Twitter. I spend way too much time on there. But I do find alot of interesting things on there. But never things like the above.

The Boston Police was tweeting about the cases they had that day when a funny follower commented in asking if it was a werewolf would we be informed. It all reminded me of Twilight with that whole banter. I wish these things would happen everyday!

Lady Gaga Says She’s The Voice Of The Unpopular People

Lady Gaga Getting Her Freak On

Lady Gaga hasn’t been in the news alot lately. I have been missing talking about her since she is my favorite. She recently admitted that she is the voice of the unpopular people. And why not, you can always strive to be like her.

“The truth is what I’m a role model for is the ability to change culture. The ability for a young woman who may not be the most popular girl in school or the most beautiful or the best at everything to bust her arse and never give up and make something of herself. So if that’s not a good message, I don’t know what else is.”

I sometimes have to say that there is always negative things for kids to look up to. And to have a positive role model is a good thing. I just am not sure if girls would want to look exactly like her.
