I’m Nick Wolfwood, and I’m counting down all this summer’s movie releases, big and small, weekend by weekend from May 1st – August 28th.
Here’s what opens on July 24th:

All Good Things
Starring: Kirsten Dunst, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Ryan Gosling, Frank Langella, Kristen Wiig, Diane Venora
What it’s about: A detective begins to unravel a missing-persons case that looks to spell doom — and quite possibly death — for the heir to a New York real estate dynasty.
Rating: TBA
Thoughts: Sounds like a pretty promising premise. There are so many talented actor in this one, so I’m guessing it’s going to be pretty good.

G-Force
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Bill Nighy, Zach Galifianakis, Penélope Cruz, Sam Rockwell, Will Arnett, Steve Buscemi, Jon Favreau
What it’s about: A specially trained squad of guinea pigs is dispatched to stop a diabolical billionaire from taking over the world.
Rating: PG
Thoughts: Not much to say about this one, it’s clearly aimed at kiddies. There has to be something to take the kids to.

Orphan
Starring: Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard, Isabelle Fuhrman, CCH Pounder, Jimmy Bennett, Aryana Engineer, Lorry Ayers
What it’s about: A husband and wife who recently lost their baby adopt a 9-year-old girl who is not nearly as innocent as she claims to be.
Rating: R
Thoughts: The little girl in this movie is downright creepy. So many movies have creepy little kids and it always seems to work on some level.

The Ugly Truth
Starring: Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler, Bree Turner, Eric Winter, Nick Searcy, Jesse D. Goins, Cheryl Hines, John Michael Higgins
What it’s about: A romantically challenged morning show producer (Heigl) is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by her chauvinistic correspondent (Butler) to prove his theories on relationships and help her find love. His clever ploys, however, lead to an unexpected result.
Rating: R
Thoughts: This movie has the potential to be very funny, it’s not very often that an R-rated ‘chick flick’ comes out.

The Answer Man
Starring: Jeff Daniels, Lauren Graham, Lou Taylor Pucci, Max Antisell, Richard Barlow
What it’s about: A reclusive author of spiritual books, is pursued for advice by a single mother and a man fresh out of rehab.
Rating: R
Thoughts: Jeff Daniels is so rarely on the big screen anymore, but he’s always good. I’m sure he’ll bring the character to life in a vivid and funny way.

In The Loop
Starring: Peter Capaldi, Tom Hollander, Gina McKee, James Gandolfini, Chris Addison, Anna Chlumsky, Enzo Cilenti, Paul Higgins
What it’s about: The US President and UK Prime Minister fancy a war. But not everyone agrees that war is a good thing. The US General Miller doesn’t think so and neither does the British Secretary of State for International Development, Simon Foster. But, after Simon accidentally backs military action on TV, he suddenly has a lot of friends in Washington, DC.
Rating: TBA
Thoughts: I’m really not going to be seeing this in theaters, sounds like a lot of political banter. Where’s the personal drama?
