‘Idol’ Finalist Carly Smithson and Evanescence Members Forming New Band

During the 2008 season of American Idol, Carly Smithson became known for her killer pipes, cool Irish accent, and crazy tattoos. Now she will be known as the rock vocalist for a band she is forming with members of Evanescence (lead guitarist and co-songwriter Ben Moody, guitarist John Lecompt and drummer Rocky Gray) called Fallen.
“Carly and I sat down and we just kinda geeked out at looking at stuff on the Internet,” Moody told The Times. “[My band and I] had been planning all this stuff on one side, and Carly’s been planning it on the other and they just happened to be literally identical. And I don’t mean, like oh, they were kind of the same. I mean, an uncanny amount of detail being identical. And it was just clear to me that we had found our better half.”
I am so pumped to hear the kind of music Carly is going to put out. She’s an amazing talent and I am so glad she didn’t sell out to do a pop record and stuck with her rock ‘n roll roots. We wish you the best, girl!!
