Designer Christian Lacroix Fighting For His Fashion Future

Fashion Designer Christian Lacroix

When you think of high fashion & haute couture; few big name designers evoke such a strong sense of style as Christian Lacroix. The admired fashion guru is finding himself in a position he has never seen: on the losing end of a financial battle that could permanently put his namesake label out of business forever. The Christian Lacroix label is owned by the Falic Group and they have been placed in receivership (a form of bankruptcy.) Without another buyer to bail out the company, the veteran designer will not be able to produce fashion under his own name.

“What really hurts,” says Christian Lacroix slowly, “is that my name, which I have now lost, is the name of my family. Whoever does take over the business can use it and abuse it as they like, but it’s my father’s name, and my grandfather’s name – men who brought me up to have a very rigid moral backbone; men who taught me never to have any debts.”

Lacroix is still hoping to pull out a fashion show in July – but at no cost to the designer or his business. Colleagues, assistants, suppliers, friends, seamstresses and models all will be donating time and money to help produce a show that brings his label back from the edge of disaster. Let’s hope the great french master can pull off the ultimate comeback and once again design and inspire everyone in the industry.
